Air-sea turbulent fluxes on the Arctic in the summer of 2013
On board turbulent fluxes of CO2, CH4 and energy were measured during the cruise in the Chukchi Borderland/Mendeleev Ridge/Beaufort Sea in boreal summer of 2013. Eddy covariance system, consisting of 3-D sonic anemometer, open-path CO2/H2O gas analyzer and closed-path cavity ring-down spectrometer was used for the measurement. Motion sensor was added to the flux system to correct the effect of ship motion on the fluxes. Data were recorded on a data logger with sampling rate of 10 Hz. Turbulent flux measurements are used to 1) better understand the air-sea energy exchanges and 2) evaluate how much the Chukchi sea absorbs or emits green house gases such as CO2 and CH4 in the Chukchi sea, the Arctic in summer
