Data on soil methane flux, physicochemical and microbial properties during the 2023 growing season (July - September) in Council, Alaska wet tundra

* Research objective: To understand the synergistic legacy effect of increased snow depth during winter and vascular plant species on growing season methane emissions * Data description: Soil samples were frozen at -20°C after collection. Soil physicochemical properties were analyzed in the laboratory after completely thawing soil at 4°C. The soil physicochemical pro perties include: - Water content (WC) (%) - Organic matter content (OC) (%) - pH - Ammonium (NH4) (μg-N gdrysoil-1) - Total Nitrogen (TN) (%) - Total Carbon (TC) (%) - Carbon/Nitrogen ratio (C/N) - Nitrate (NO3) (μg-N gdrysoil-1) - Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) (μg gOC-1) - Soil Thaw depth (cm) - Soil Redox potential (mV) Soil methane flux data was collected via a closed static chamber method. The headspace gas samples were transferred to pre-evacuated gas vials every 15min for 45min. The gas samples were brought to the laboratory and analyzed via GC-FID. Soil samples for microbial analysis were separated and kept at -80°C until analysis. The soil microbial properties include: - mcrA (log10 mcrA copy number gOC-1) - pmoA (log10 pmoA copy number gOC-1)
