1-D Ecosystem modeling for primary production and biogenic silica export in the Southern Ocean

The modified ERSEM was implemented in the framework coupled with the General Ocean Turbulence Model (GOTM), a 1D water column model that includes a variety of turbulence closure schemes for vertical mixing (Burchard et al., 2006). The model was used for the three regions (ACC: 60oS, 180oE; NWR: 72oS, 172oE; TNB:74.5oS,165oE) from 1 January 1979 to 31 December 2019. Atmospheric forcing parameters, including zonal and meridional wind speeds, surface pressure, air temperature, dew point, and total cloud concentration, were obtained from the hourly the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) reanalysis ERA-5 data (0.125° horizontal resolution).
