Special early-winter radiosonde observation campaign data at Ny Alesund in 2023-2025

KOPRI and AWI jointly conducted a radiosonde campaign at Ny-Ålesund, increasing the balloon launch frequency from once to twice daily for about one month during early winter in the period 2023–2025. The purpose of this campaign was to carry out an Observing System Experiment (OSE) to investigate how enhanced upper-level atmospheric observations in early winter over the Barents Sea region—where Arctic sea ice has undergone significant melt during the cold season—affect weather forecasting and subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) prediction performance in downstream regions of Eurasia.
