Major ion composition of an ice core from the Tsambagarav glacier, Mongolia at 2008

A 40 m ice core was drilled on the Tsambagarav glacier in the Mongolian Altai in 2008. After pretreatment of the ice core at the KOPRI lab including ice melting, the melted ice core samples were analyzed for major ion (cation and anion) composition using an DIONEX ion chromatograph. Variation in the major ion composition with depth in the ice core can indicate environmental and/or meteorological change with time governing the production, transport and deposition of airborne aerosols. Therefore, the data is useful for reconstructing the regional change through time.
