Multibeam data of Arctic Ocean, ARA17A (2026)

As part of efforts to develop the Northern Sea Route (NSR), the primary objective of this survey was to map uncharted waters and characterize seafloor morphology to ensure safe vessel navigation. The survey area was strategically selected along the cruise track where the Arctic sea ice was maximally open toward the northwest. However, the sea ice conditions during the 2026 period were less favorable than in previous years, posing structural challenges. To overcome these environmental limits and secure high-quality data, a 20-hour seafloor survey was conducted using a KONGSBERG EM124 multibeam echosounder.
