Onset Dates of Stratospheric Final Warming in the Southern Hemisphere (1979–2022)

This dataset provides the onset dates of stratospheric final warming (SFW) in the Southern Hemisphere from 1979 to 2022. The SFW date is defined as the last day when the 5-day running mean of zonal-mean zonal wind at 60°S and 50 hPa falls below 10 m/s and does not recover until the following autumn. The data are derived from ERA5 reanalysis and are used to investigate stratosphere–troposphere coupling and surface climate variability in Antarctica. The dataset is associated with the study published in Choi et al. (2024), DOI: 10.1038/s43247-024-01221-0.
